Old Chatham, a labor of love.
My husband said he had one more project in him. I was on board… I love a project! We had successfully renovated two beautiful homes in New Jersey in the past, with me handling the design elements and him expertly managing the role of general contractor. Instead of simply searching for a charming place to renovate in the picturesque Hudson Valley, we stumbled upon an abandoned farmhouse that had been vacant for over two decades. As we stepped inside, the floor nearly gave way beneath us, which certainly gave us pause! It is a requirement that both the buyer's and seller's realtors must be present during property viewings, so I found myself accompanied by the seller's realtor while he engaged with our realtor. We got in the car and immediately turned to one another, we have to make an offer. So began our exciting journey to renovate the original farmhouse and build a new 2,300 square-foot house, a garage and sprucing up the barn.
